2018 In A Nutshell
Friends of RHR, apologies it’s been so long, we have much to catch you up on.
2018 has been a big year for the team at Rocking Horse Road and Coversion Music. Not only have we secured some killer placements, but we’ve also travelled the globe. From Cannes to LA, Amsterdam to Truro, and everywhere in between, RHR has been working hard to become internationally recognized.
So, here’s a quick recap for you all.
February
The year started off with a bang, with RHR team member Janesta travelling to Northern Ireland for Output Belfast to chat about music supervision in video games.
May
The month of May began with RHR team members Janesta & Emma meeting in Halifax for the East Coast Music Week , followed by the two flying to Toronto travelling to Toronto for CMW (see previous post).
Shortly after returning home from a busy time in Canada for ECMW and CMW, Janesta hopped on a plane (again) and landed in Amsterdam for the 2018 BUMA Music in Motion conference. She shared her knowledge/experience working with cover songs in sync, and looked pretty damn professional doing so!
The spring also saw the release of “Jurassic World: Evolution”, the latest game from Frontier Developments and music supervisor Janesta Boudreau. She grabbed a nomination (and an award! See previous post) for her work on this (but more on that later…) and is currently working on a super, secret new game.
June
June was a busy month for owner/operator Janesta. Making two trips to the sunny location of Cannes, France. Her first trip was to the Midem Music Festival, where she spoke on a panel discussing music supervision in video games. She got to hang out with fellow music supervisors, and mingle with RHR Artist Toya Delazy.
Later in the month, team members Janesta and Emma traveled back to the beaches of the French Riviera for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Connections were made, celebrities were spotted and ocean meetings were invented. It was a week for the books!
August
Fast forward to August, Jetsetter-Janesta hopped back on a plane to travel all the way to Los Angeles for meetings, meetings and more meetings.
October
For the second year in a row, Janesta was nominated for ‘Best Music Supervisor – Video Games’ at the Music Week Sync Awards for her work on Jurassic World: Evolution. While she didn’t walk away with a win this year, we’re looking forward to 2019 – third time’s the charm right?
November
Back in Canada, team member Emma travelled up to Truro, NS for another year of Nova Scotia Music Week. It’s always a great time to be surrounded by so many talented local artists, and Music Nova Scotia has worked hard to bring in delegates from all around the world – with a lot of focus on music supervision, naturally 🙂
That’s all for now friends, looking forward to a great 2019!
And We’re Off!
No one does whirlwind quite like RHR (looking at you JB), and we’re about to take off on a couple very exciting trips! TO friends and friends visiting, we will be at CMW tomorrow to Sunday morning – get at us if you haven’t done so already:) we love grabbing food and drinks. We will also be in Saint John for East Coast Music Week – catching up with friends, attending conference sessions and of course, enjoying the evening’s festivities.
Hope to see new and old friends alike over the coming week!
Oh, right – that Coversion logo? 🙂 That’s some news for another day.
See ya!
Welcome Henry Hall To The RHR Family!
Our latest addition to the RHR team brings Rolling Stone recognized pop artist Henry Hall on board! Hall’s music is fun, catchy and clever drawing humour from his own personal experiences and doesn’t shy away from belting it out. Hall’s inherent quirkiness fits right in with us at Rocking Horse Road and we’re stoked to have such a cool industry shaker on board. He attributes a lot of his sound to the likes of The Weeknd and Paul McCartney, who like Hall are not afraid to sing in a higher octave. Are we ever thankful for that! He has already scored a really cool sync – which we’re not sure we can talk about yet, so we’re just going to keep you on your toes until we’re ready to announce.
Welcome to the fam Henry – we’re happy to have you!
Check out Hall’s video for his song “Company” off his latest EP My Friends Don’t Like Me below!
“As one upbeat, off-kilter track bleeds into another, there’s a sense of unabashed, mood-lifting, retro goodness that feels boldly infectious” – Lauren McKinney, The Wild Honey Pie

Welcome The Helmoltz Resonators To The RHR Family!
With our newest addition to the RHR family things have gotten a little quirkier – in the best way possible. UK lads The Helmholtz Resonators have joined forces with us at Rocking Horse Road to share their unique take on music and life with the rest of the world. Heavily inspired by the ethos behind concept albums, the band have created a repertoire of songs as eccentric as their imagine – drawing influences from The Kinks, LCD Soundsystem and other music industry game changers. Their most recent album “The Mystery of Woolley Mountain” was released as not only a digital album, but also a video game and an interactive song e-book. These guys bring something new to the table and after all – variety is the spice of life, right?
Welcome to the team guys, we’re excited to have you on board!
Spotlight On Moonlight
So most of you have probably heard of a little movie that hit theatres recently titled Moonlight – you know, the 2017 Golden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture – Drama? The movie starring Mahershala Ali which has created a ton of Oscar buzz? Now that you’re up to speed we can excitedly tell you that the Ad running on tv and online promoting the film features a composition written by RHR Composer Jeremiah Pena and was cleared through RHR!
Check out the trailer below and give a big hoorah for the team at RHR – we told you 2017 was going to be our year.
“It was done with such incredible understanding. It was so human.” – Helen Mirren on Moonlight
“From first shot to last, Moonlight is about as beautiful a movie as you are ever likely to see. The colors are rich and luminous. The music — hip-hop, R&B, astute classical selections and Nicholas Britell’s subtle score — is both surprising and perfect.”- A.O. Scott, The New York Times
“I cannot recommend this film enough. Every idea, every theme, every emotion you could possibly feel as a human being you feel on screen.” – Trevor Noah, Television Host
“Moonlight offers a broad audience the chance to see that humanity, love, and affection exist inside—and, in fact, are freed within—the intimate realms of queerness, Blackness, and carcerality.” Steven Thrasher, Esquire

RHR Library Composer Scores Big Across The Pond
We’ve got a secret that we have been dying to tell you, something exciting this way comes from the team at Rocking Horse Road Productions and it’s almost time to spill the beans…
Ok, screw it, Rocking Horse Road’s newest endeavour – our Pre-cleared Music Library – is up and running which features many different tracks, compositions, soundscapes, film scores etc., from talented musicians all around the globe. We haven’t officially launched yet but because we like you all so much, we thought we’d tell you a bit early. A composer featured in our library has recently been involved with a major project across the pond in the UK and we’re super proud to share his great news with you – and even more proud to be able to say that we get to work with this ‘gent on the daily and feature his incredible music in our library.
So who is it.. Answer? Jim Guthrie! A Canadian singer-songwriter, who is the lead composer for the brand new construction and management simulation video game Planet Coaster. You can hear all of Jim’s incredible tracks throughout the game and the entire soundtrack (You, Me & Gravity: The Music of Planet Coaster) can also be purchased/played from his online Bandcamp profile – have a listen below! The team at Frontier Developments worked very hard on this project and it has definitely paid off. So go check it out, will ya?
Needless to say we’re pretty excited for Jim and even more excited that our Pre-cleared Music Library will have its official launch very, very soon where you can hear more from him as well as many other talented musicians:)
